Culinary Tour of Tirana & Berat – Flavours & Culture in Two Historic Cities

Discover Albania through its food, culture, and rich heritage on this immersive 6-night culinary adventure, with three nights each in Tirana and Berat. Fly from Heathrow to Tirana, where your local guide will introduce you to the best of both cities—balancing iconic landmarks with unforgettable gastronomic experiences.

Explore the exciting blend of old and new in the lively Albanian capital. Wander through Skanderbeg Square and visit must-see spots like Bunk’Art, the haunting communist-era museums, and the eerie House of Leaves—the famed former secret police headquarters.
Experience Tirana’s food scene in full swing: tuck into hearty byrek from bakeries, sample spicy qofte meatballs, sip strong Albanian coffee brewed in a cezve, and wash it all down with a warming shot of raki, Albania’s national spirit.
Enjoy a traditional grill meal featuring fergesa, suxhuk, and other regional dishes, paired with local wine, craft beer, or raki. Stroll through the vibrant New Bazaar, olive‑oil shops, and even a microbrewery in an authentic culinary exploration

Journey to the UNESCO “City of a Thousand Windows” for three nights amid Ottoman‑era charm. Tour the elegant Berat Castle, the Onufri Iconography Museum, and stroll across Gorica Bridge. Culinary experiences centre on local produce—delight in tours of olive‑oil press farms, village wine tastings, and paired lunches. You’ll visit the nearby village of Bilc to taste local olives and olive oil at Zaimi. Here you will see why the best olives in Albania come from Berat. A highlight is a hands‑on cooking session with a local family inside the castle or a village home, where you’ll prepare and share traditional dishes followed by homemade raki or wine .

Itinerary

Day 1- Fly to Tirana

Fly from the UK to Mother Teresa International airport in Tirana where you will be met and transferred to your overnight hotel in Tirana.

Day 2- Tirana

Today, we will explore the capital of Albania, one of the most dynamic capitals of the Balkans, a joyful city that is a beautiful mix of both the  modern and the historical. The main historical places that are concentrated near Skënderbej square will be visited. including the 18th-century Et’hem Bey Mosque, the Tirana Clock Tower, the National Historical Museum, the Bunk’art tunnel of the Ministry of the Internal Affairs during the dictatorship and the Pyramid. The most energetic part of Tirana is the Ish-Blloku area, once the home of the communist elites, the neighbourhood is now full of cafes and clubs that will offer the opportunity to have a good time. We will taste traditional Albanian food, such as “fergese Tirane” or “tave kosi” – plus give you the opportunity (the first of many) to enjoy some Raki!
Overnight in Tirana.

Day 3- Tirana

More time experiencing Tirana – past and present. A ride up Dajti mountain on the cable car will afford you stunning views of he city. By now, the aroma of the city’s grills serving fresh Qofte will have tantalised your senses so we’ll give in to that! We’ll also enjoy treats from a local deli and a traditional Albanian restaurant .
Overnight in Tirana.

Day 4- Tirana - Berat

Travel to Berat. City tour with views from the Berat Castle wherein you will visit the Byzantine Cathedral and Onufri museum.
Enjoy a walk along the Osumi River and the historic Mangalem and Gorica districts.
Lunch and wine tasting at a local winery (looking for the best options now)
Evening and dinner will be yours to enjoy.

Day 5- Berat

Breakfast at the hotel.
Visit the nearby village of Bilc to taste local olives and olive oil at Zaimi. Here you will see why the best olives in Albania come from Berat. Lunch and wine tasting will take place at a local winery. After lunch, you will have some time to yourself to enjoy Berat and in the evening you will have dinner of your own making after a cooking lesson with a local family!

Day 6- Berat – UK

Unfortunately, our adventure ends today! However first, after breakfast and depending on flight time – there may be time to enjoy a short hike from Gorica to see some final amazing views of Berat Castle and the surrounding mountains and one last winery with light snacks. Even if the flight time doesn’t allow – we’ll look to fit these in earlier in the itinerary!
You will transfer back to the airport for your flight back to the UK – with a heart full of memories and a burning desire to return!

Why don't you have an online booking option?

We don’t have this because, quite simply, every holiday is different. Even if you like one of our ‘off the shelf’ itineraries, the chances are you’ll want to tinker with it a little bit. Plus availability changes regularly. All sorts of reasons really.
In a nutshell, we provide a quality service and are here for you. We want this relationship with our customers to start from the very beginning and this is the best way!
